Meet Judith Knight
Judith Knight was born and raised in Berkshire County. Her distinguished career spans two decades in the legal profession, and she has worked as both a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. This contrasting experience has provided her with a
keen insight into the criminal justice system.
Her days as a prosecutor included five years of serving as an Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County, which neighbors Boston and which has a formidable crime rate. While there, Judy prosecuted multiple felonies, including rape, child abuse, and attempted murder. Her tenure in Middlesex County also provided her with a firm grasp on how a well-run District Attorney's office should work.
Before deciding to return home to the Berkshires, Judy served as a criminal defense attorney at two well-respected Boston law firms. Upon returning to the Berkshires in 1998, she joined a similarly well-respected Pittsfield firm, Campoli and Campoli, before setting out on her own. She is now a partner in the Great Barrington law firm of Hellman, Shearn & Knight, where she handles a wide variety of both criminal and civil cases.
Judith worked as an adjunct professor at the Western New England School of Law in Springfield for 6 years, where she taught a course in which she instructed law students on the successful preparation and trying of criminal and civil cases.
Judith has been active in the community, serving on the Board of the Berkshire Theater and Projectile Arts. She also volunteered as a legal consultant in southern Florida on Election Day 2004, working to ensure that registered voters were not denied their right to vote.
Judith's family has deep roots in Berkshire County. She is the daughter of the late Dr. Robert P. Knight, who was the Director of the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge until his death in 1966, and Adele Knight Boyd of Stockbridge. Judith spent her formative years in Stockbridge, graduating from its public school system, before completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and earning her Juris Doctor at Washington and Lee University Law School in Virginia. She now resides in Lee.
